Makayla Skelton - 4th Runner-Up
1.If you could make one rule that everyone in the world had to follow, what would it be?
The state or country that I would like to live in would be wherever is nearest to my family. I enjoy traveling and after taking a DNA test I would love to travel to my place of origin, Ireland, Scotland and Greece. However, my heart is wherever my sisters are. No other place could ever feel like home if it is not filled with the sounds of their laughter.
2.If you could have any superpower, what would it be?
Something funny about a family vacation would have to be when my grandfather, whom I call “Poppy”, always pretends he knows random people while we are on vacation. Regardless of whether we are at Disneyland, Lincoln Memorial, or Kennedy Space Center, he always sees someone far away and yells, “Hey Ray, how ya doing?”. Nine times out of ten someone either waves back or yells something like “Hey, I’m good, how are you?”.
3.When do you feel a child or teen becomes an adult?
To educate people on heart disease, motivate them to be heart healthy and inspire them to be kind hearted through my Whole Heart Campaign. I’ve had the privilege of traveling around the U.S and I would love to expand to a global level. I would also promote the International Pageant system, I am so proud to be a part of this sisterhood and would love to bring more incredible, strong and world changing young women to this program.
4.What do you feel you have learned in life that will be the most useful?
When you have lived in a hospital around so many sick children, you start to see beauty beyond the physical appearance of oneself. A brother laying in a hospital bed kissing his sisters bald head, a dad putting on a puppet show, just to get his son to smile, a grandfather praying over his new granddaughter. Beauty is about the moments in time when your strength is tested and when you selflessly give yourself to be there for someone else.
